In order to be considered for a grant, each potential recipient must write a letter to the board explaining their situation and why they need financial assistance. Many of our grant recipients share how thankful they are that an organization exists to give them hope to one day have a family.

"I want to thank you for making this grant possible. My daughter is 16 years old, and is struggling with lumbar cancer.
We recently found out that the radiation could possibly kill her ovaries. Therefore, having children could not be an option for her.
This is not anything a 16 year old should have to think about...My daughter has always dreamed of having three children. Her heart was crushed when the oncologist started telling her that the radiation could potentially kill her ovaries, which would also kill her dreams of one day having a family of her own.
This grant would be a small win for her, and would begin to give her something to actually "live" for again."

Morgan James, NY
"My cancer is considered "treatable" not curable. The cost of doctor appointments, scans, surgeries, chemotherapy, medication, etc. are things I am going to have to pay for my entire life.
Add student loans, rent. and living expenses and financial security is an unattainable thing. I absolutely love my job as a teacher, but it is not the highest paying job. As recent college graduates, my partner and I are trying to make ends meet and get on our feet.
It's hard enough just getting started, but also throwing cancer in the mix adds complexity to things. I have exhausted all of my earned leave at work between appointments, surgery, and treatment, and have had to take pay cuts through my diagnosis.
I am so blessed to have been able to go through this process and have learned that I cannot take a single thing or day for granted. Because of organizations like you, people like me are able to hold on to dreams we have and not let our diagnosis define us.

"I never would have thought that I would be diagnosed with breast cancer at the young age of 26. Finding out that chemotherapy could permanently take away my dream to have kids was heartbreaking.
Ever since I was a little girl it was my dream to have a big family. I always imagined a house full of kids running around and couldn't wait to enjoy the beautiful chaos that comes with having a family.
I truly believe one of the things I was meant to do in this life was become a mother. What scares me most thinking about the treatment I will go through isn't the side effects or the hair loss, it's the possibility that I may never have a child of my own.
​
Thinking about having to pay for the cost of fertility treatments at this point is just another burden to add to the whole "I have cancer" thing. Receiving this grant would allow me to breathe just a little more. It can give me hope when it feels like none is left. Just knowing I have the backup option to have a child, even if my fertility is destroyed with chemotherapy, would be the light at the end of the tunnel."
