Karen Burns, MD MS is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics and a pediatric oncologist at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center.  She is the Co-Director of the Cancer Survivorship Program and a founding member and Co-Director of the Comprehensive Fertility Care and Preservation Program at Cincinnati Children’s.

Dr. Burns graduated from the University of Pennsylvania and went on to pursue a medical degree at Temple University.  She completed her residency in pediatrics at St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children before going on to complete a fellowship in pediatric hematology/oncology/bone marrow transplant at the Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin.  While in fellowship she also earned a Masters of Science in Epidemiology from the Medical College of Wisconsin.  It was in fellowship that she first developed an interest in fertility preservation and a passion for bringing this technology to the pediatric oncology population and the growing number of pediatric and AYA cancer survivors.

Dr. Burns is involved in both national and international organizations working to establish standard guidelines regarding the risk treatment poses to future fertility in pediatric and AYA oncology.  She is a huge advocate for patient education and expanding access to fertility preservation procedures.  She is thrilled to be working with Team Maggie for a Cure on the Medical Advisory Board.
