My name is Gemma and I am 30 years old. I live in Mattoon, IL and work for the United States Postal Service as a Letter Carrier. I love my job and I love the people I work with and meet while I walk various city routes. Last year though my customers noticed that I started to walk various city routes. Last year though my customers noticed that I started to walk with a limp. I thought that I had just pulled a muscle but In late February 2017 a tumor was discover...

In Sept 2014, while studying for my Chemistry final in my dorm room I had a seizure and ended up in the hospital.  I was so grateful I was not studying alone that night and my friends knew exactly what to do.  I woke up in a hospital.  The doctor diagnosed me with Oligoastrocytoma which causes seizures.  After 2 brain surgeries I was told they removed all the cancer cells they could see and there was no guarantee the tumor will not come back.  I was thankful t...

I had a 7am appointment this morning to get an ultrasound and blood work. It was rough getting up because my mind wouldn't let me sleep last night. In better news, I have several follicles growing on both sides of my ovaries. My largest follicles are 10mm and 11mm. The rest of my follicles are at 8mm or less. The doctor changed the dosage of Menopur to a higher dosage and Gonal-f stayed the same. The doctor also added another injection to my fertility treatmen...

Exactly two years ago around 7:30pm, I was sitting in my doctors office, making the toughest decision of my life! My mom, best friend, and boyfriend at the time by my side, 12/23/13 is just one of those days that will always stick out in my life. It's the night I decided to have a double bilateral mastectomy. Im glad I did.#cancersux #breastcancersurvivor #bestfamilyintheentireworldim sure it's a night Mary Phillips Jones and Lindsey Simpson will never forget...

2 years ago and the day after the first surgery of my life. I received a phone call that would forever change my life, and throw my life as i knew it (might I add it was perfect) into a crazy chaotic yet beautiful experience. It is a day I will never forget, the day I was told I had breast cancer. Nothing could have prepared me for what was about to come. I still remember everything about that day and how lost I truly felt. I still don't believe it actually ha...

Today marks one year when I was officially diagnosed with breast cancer. 12/3/2013 is a day I will never forget. It marks the beginning to the craziest journey of my life, and it also marks the day I joined a lifetime sorority of the bravest, strongest, and mist determined women. We may not get to choose every detail of our lives, but we do get to choose how we live it. You can choose to let it beat you down, or you can choose to live it up and make the best o...

The journey of a 24 year old with Breast Cancer

Every year when my birthday comes around, I feel a variety of emotions come flooding into my head. Some good and of course some bad. I begin to think about previous birthdays, and what I did to celebrate, who my friends were, what happened in my life that year, what I wanna do this year, or what didn't work so well last year. Even though I am always excited to celebrate, after I turned 21 I started to dread adding a +1 to my age. Until a few days ago, when a c...

There are a few dates that will continue to stick out every year, and this is one of those. It's hard to believe, but this time last year I was going into my first chemo treatment. I was scared of the unknown, anxious to know what is was going to be like, and ready/determined to kick butt!#breastcancersurvivor #chemosucks #bestsupportsystem #timeflies#atlantacancercenter
